It's hit or miss. Some people like myself never be able to get the colony going yet everything else thrives. Some couldn't keep it from stopping. it's more to do with available nutrient and alk.
You should have sufficient light for Xenia. I've had mine under VHO, PC and now HQI DE. If anything it probably spread faster under straight florescents. A pretty hardy and easy species IME.
Xenia does not require very bright light to live but it will do best under very bright light. It always migrate to the brightest light available. It moved to right under my 400WMH.
