I was reading somewhere that some people make there own back and side inserts of there tanks out of a certain type of concrete. They form it into reef like shapes. I could not find where I was reading about it, but it sounds very interesting. Could anyone send me in the right direction on any info about this subject? I would appriciate it.

you can use regular concrete. you just need to give it about a month for it to cure to the point that it will not effect the waters' ph.
i would cure it in water(this makes the strongest concrete).
if you are to add sand to the concrete mix, make sure it is not silica based sand.
some say to use crushed oyster shell instead(found at feed mills).

i just used white portland cement and aragonite sand... it worked pretty well, but i added too much water, and the shapes kinda melted.
