Hi Steve, I have kept multiple types of Octopus and some cuttlefish. What do you need to know? Thanks Tom
Hello Tom! I set up a Biocube 32 few months ago For these interesting creatures, my son is fascinated with them when we go to the aquarium. I don’t have the Biocube fully sealed, there are skinny slots for the filter as well, wondering if I will have an issue if we went octopus route, I do have Velcro tape I could put around the plexi glass cover.

Obtaining- which vendor/site/store could I find local? I’m in Queens. Think a live animal from an Asian seafood store would work? I know in the past they’ve had live octopus seasonally, not sure about nowadays

Can you comment on the difficulty though?

This is (@Thales) Rich Ross' take on that, and he is a specialist. Some animals require a huge amount of time and dedication that most hobbyists do not have.

Octopi are extremely intelligent creatures that should be left in the oceans IMO with the exceptions of marine biology studies. I read an article a few years back about a chef who after learning how intelligent these creature are purchased a rather expensive live octopus at a fish market in order to save it from being eaten and released it back into the ocean. I since stopped eating them myself. If you can buy one and rescue it from a fish market and keep it successfully in an aquarium I am all for it, better than getting eaten for dinner.

I stopped by the Whitestone shop, decided not yet, I have to figure out how to better seal my tank, guy said they need to be kept in a small locked container to avoid escape, not what I was planning to do though, thinking about putting Velcro around the top, will see

I’m working with a biocube 32, acrylic top, slots into rear filter I think is something else they will escape through
