Well I have been wanting to build an an aquarium for some time now but while in the process of saving for a new house for myself and my family I haven't been able to pull the trigger because I don't want to set up a large aquarium in our apartment only to have to move when we find something. So a friend of my wife's had an old rusted 10 gallon iron aquarium stand which I decided that I would put something together to keep myself restrained and occupied while we house hunt.

The stand that we received from my wife's friend was in rough shape. There was some rough shape. There was some rust starting to form on portion of it but it was structurally intact. So I decided that with some tender loving care I could go ahead and whip it back into shape. So I took a little trip to Home Depot with my son and picked up some supplies to work with.

Custom Tupperware Overflow.

Now what I am about to do is going to be a bit of a shocker to some people but I like engineering and tinkering so I have decided that I did not like any of the overflows that were currently available because they would occupy so much real estate in an already small aquarium that I would not be happy and that I should just scrap the entire project now. So I decided that I would fabricate my own overflow for the aquarium utilizing some of my wife's Tupperware. (She was not too happy with this!) But I figured the pieces were perfect for what I wanted it for and she always wants to see me happy to she gave in and let me play Doctor Frankenstein for a bit. So with some creativity my little Frankenflow was created!

Tupperware Overflow Initial Testing.

My main focus in creating this overflow was to allow a small amount of flow in order to increase exposure time to the filtration equipment in the sump. So I conducted some initial test to see first and foremost if my little contraption would work. Which it did.
