As most of us know, Nick (NYfireman) probably has the most expensive equipment list on the site. At least out of anyone I know. But with all this "top of the line" equipment, Nick uses a plastic, low budget sump with no baffles, no frills and can only be rivaled in "ghettoliciousness" by a Rubbermaid bin (sorry Nick, but I gotta bust your ba11s). The sump was causing some equipment issues, so I was tasked with a new sump build. Dimensions are 26"X21"X20". I used .25" domestic cast acrylic supported by baffles and a 1 inch splash guard around the top.
Here are some tools of the trade used to begin the build and the completed box. Cuts were made with a table saw and router. Straight edges and clamps are needed. After all cuts, I sand all edges.

I made the sump large enough to handle his water should power go out. He also has about 10 gallons of play should something occur with his auto top-off before his pump would run dry. It obviously would need to fit in his stand. No fuge area. Baffles are set up to accommodate his BK Skimmer. The splash guards and first baffle were not put in yet. They will be installed with the skimmer in place to ensure good fit. Last pic is the equipment used for assembly.

I'll be at Nick's on Thursday to finish it and install all equipment. I'll post pics of the completed job with all the sexy bells and whistles in it.

I keep my sumps clean. No rock, no sand and no fuge.
Pump sitting towards the top of the water line???... not exactly sure you are wording this correctly. Keeping the input of the pump as low as possible will allow you to maximize gallons allowed between top-offs before your pump runs dry if there are some unusual circumstances. Are we talking about the same thing?

Seriously, it's a box with baffles and I built your PO4 box. Let's get the BK in this bad boy and take it from there. Otherwise, it gets too busy.

Still some wire clean-up and straightening out needed.

sweet! that bk is pulling out some nog that soon after the move. Nice!
Yes. The belief is his old sump was causing performance issues with his BK. Water level, pressure from the drain, top-off I think all created the problems, so I built this sump to avoid all of those problems.
No micro bubbles in the main display, it's very quiet and the skimmer works great.
