Cichlid breeders (the good ones anyway) do NOT use marine salts in freshwater tanks. While it may help treat and prevent Ichthyophthiriasis it could also promote Velvet which is caused by Piscinoodinium pullulate, a nasty little parasite that could be brought in by adding salt to a freshwater environment. If you need to help keep your kH high and want proper trace elements found in their original habitat you want to use a proper salt made specifically for cichlids (Seachem makes one of the best), the use of baking soda is also widely used.
