Hi, My 55 has been cycled for about a month now. I have a 3" DSB with live rock, and I'm seeing what appear to be white splotches over my rock and sand. Its about the size of a quarter, and there are about 6 or 7 of these. Is this calcium build-up and if so is it a problem or not??? :)

Can you post a picture? Without one I would just be guessing.

Hi thanks for the reply. My camera is on the blink. I need to get a new one. It just looks like little splashes or splotches in my tank on the rocks and sand.

Doesn't sound like a calcium problem to me. What it might be is that your coralline algae might be dieing back a bit, which is normal for new rock. It'll eventually stablize out again. However I'm not sure what you're seeing on your sandbed. Can you describe it in a bit more detail?
